Fungal disease that causes sunken, dark lesions on leaves, stems, and fruit.
Fun fact: The name comes from Greek meaning “coal disease” due to the black spots!
Why it appears:
- Wet, warm conditions
- Overhead watering
- Infected seeds or plant debris
- Humid, poorly ventilated areas
- Frequent rain or splashback
Prevention tips:
- Use disease-free seeds
- Avoid overhead watering
- Prune for airflow
- Rotate crops
- Remove and destroy infected plant parts
