Shield Bug

A variety of stinkbugs, also known as shieldbugs, have been described, of which the most common are green vegetable bugs and Bagrada bugs. They vary in size from 6 mm to 12 mm in length. This group of insects do not have a pupal stage and the nymphs are small, wingless replicas of the adults. Most stinkbugs have intricate geometric coloured markings on their backs, although some are just bright green or black.

Stinkbugs feed on plants sap with their piercing and sucking mouthparts. In large numbers they can severly damage new growth and shoots, inhibiting overal plant growth. Damage by stinkbugs can also result in secondary decay of seed pods, leaves and fruit.
