Diamond Back Moth

The diamond-back moth is an important pest of cabbage crops all over the world. The slender moth of 7-8 mm in length have a characteristic diamond-like pattern on its back. The green larvae reach 12 mm in length before they pupate on the underside of leaves or debris in a loose silk cocoon. Their life-cycle can be as short as 21 days.

The larvae of the diamond-back moth damage cabbage plants by feeding mainly on the lower leaf surface and leaving a little window of the upper epidermis. Large numbers of these larvae can also tunnel into cabbage heads leaving behind unsightly holes.
